VOLUNTEER

dark skies art festival greeters

The heart of any event like this is the people and Volunteers are what makes it actually work. Stakes don't get pounded by magic, nor does the icon get built by hard working gnomes (though some of them are a bit short). It takes people devoting time, energy, and the sweat of their brow to make this come together.

We have all kind of fun positions that need to be filled. And these are just the major ones - remember, this is a 'do-ocracy'. If you see something that needs to be done - do it! Own that portion and contribute your unique style to the position.

EVENT HORIZON - Our front gate. The Gators (those getting people checked in to the event, ripping tickets) and Greeters (those getting people out of their cars, checking supplies, giving spankings) are the first introduction that new and old have to the event. People have always said that Dark Skies has one of the best front gates. And that's all because of the hard working individuals who staff it.

FIRE / SAFTY - Fire & Safety is of paramount concern to the producers of Dark Skies. We have Black Rock Rangers onsite to help assist anyone in need, as well as certified EMTs and rescue personnel. But we are always looking for qualified individuals who want to help out with keeping an eye on the various things that burn and go boom in the night & assist in any emergencies that may come up. We can joke about 'safety third' but in reality, it is always number one.

DARK SKIES CITY PLANNERS (DSCP) - DSCP is responsible for not only the building of the city, but also for planning it out and making sure everyone has a place to rest (everything else is up to you). They work before the event pounding stakes and surveying the site in the desert heat, build the various shade structures onsite (center camp, Khaki HQ) and then turn around and make sure that everyone is close to a potty and that one theme camp's music isn't drowning out anothers.

DEPT. OF MUTANT VEHICLES (DMV) - From the depths of the artist mind, stirs a creature given form. A creature not seen before - a machine so twisted that it must be called a mutant vehicle. Our DMV wants to see your creation take to the streets of Dark Skies, but they first want to make sure that its safe for people to be around day & night. A DMV Naughty Rider will take a ride on your creation, see how well you can see off of it & if its properly lit for night time driving, then give you a decal so everyone knows that its an authentic Mutant Vehicle.

THE LIGHT - "The Light" is our onsite paper with information about what is happening during the event, important things to remember, cooking recipes, and various other silly bits. The Light is always looking for contributions, artwork, and people to deliver it around the playa.
