Do you have a Mutant Vehicle? art car
If so, the "Naughty Riders of the Lost Art Cars" (DMV personnel) welcome you to bring your Mutant Vehicle (Art Car) to Roach Lake and participate in Dark Skies, which is located on an “Art Car friendly” dry lake bed. There may be a chance that your Mutant Vehicle will not be allowed to be driven. We want you to participate with your vehicle. So Please make your vehicle safe & meets the DMV Acceptance Process.

DMV Acceptance Process

The DMV Acceptance Process is one that is intended to accept ALL mutant vehicles that are safe. All persons on site need to feel confident regarding their safety knowing that you have an understanding of the DMV guidelines. While at a prior event in May, 2005, we observed drivers doing “wheelies” and “donuts” within the perimeters of the city and campsites. We quickly addressed the issue and decided to move forward with the DMV acceptance process. Our acceptance process is designed to eliminate such action/s. all undesirable vehicles such as motorcycles, dirt bikes, dune buggies, ATV's (All Terrain Vehicles), quad runners, etc., to be excluded unless such vehicles meet the guidelines set forth in this document. There are certain vehicles that will be considered Mutant Vehicles and other vehicles that will not be considered Mutant Vehicles.

What is considered a “Mutant Vehicle”?
• A vehicle that has been radically, stunningly and safely modified,
• A vehicle that has 4 or more wheels, and is designed to carry two or more people (including the driver) is considered a Mutant Vehicle.
• Mutant Vehicles shall not mimic any type of emergency vehicle or law enforcement vehicle. The words “whimsical” and “surreal” come to mind when thinking of Mutant Vehicles.
• Although opinions may vary, it our Opinion that an Art Car not be limited to “private parties” but is a vehicle that all persons should have the opportunity to visit and/or ride at one time or another while at the event, as long as it is safe to ride and not over capacity.

What "is not" considered a Mutant Vehicle?
• A vehicle that has NOT been radically mutated is not considered a Mutant Vehicle.
• Street vehicles with minimal changes and temporary decorations are not considered mutant vehicles. For instance, a vehicle that has crape paper and some flowers attached to it is not considered a mutated vehicle.
• Low riders, classic cars, monster trucks, dune buggies and hot rods are not considered mutant vehicles. There are other venues for displaying these vehicles. If you bring these vehicles, they must remain parked at your camp or designated area like any other non-mutated vehicle.
• All “normal” (non-mutated) cars, trucks, busses, motorcycles, or other normal vehicle not mentioned here should be driven to your camp or designated area and parked permanently during the duration of the event. Driving these vehicles is restricted to “entering” the event site and “leaving” the event site with no other exceptions.
• A vehicle that has been stripped down to the frame and engine is not considered a mutant vehicle.
• The DMV “Naughty Riders” have the final say-so in this regard.

What is the “acceptance” process?
• Read and understand all the guidelines.
• If needed, make adjustments to your Art Car as per the guidelines.
• Fill out the acceptance form/s, bring them with you (forms will be made available at the DMV if you do not have the means to print them beforehand)
• Take an official DMV “Naughty Rider” for a fun filled ride (required, we want to experience the fun first), and meet all the requirements including day permit and night permit.
